Physical Education Teacher Education Program

Student Teaching

Student teaching is a 12 semester hour course that PETE Majors take prior to graduation.  The purpose of student teaching is to allow teacher candidates to apply the knowledge, skills, and dispositions acquired in their major experiences at Appalachian.

The student teaching program is administered through the Reich College of Education (RCOE).  Student teachers are supervised by faculty from the RCOE and PETE faculty serve as consultants.  The cooperating teacher with whom student teachers are placed serve as mentors and a day-to-day resource.  Evaulations of the student teaching experience are made by the RCOE supervisor with input from the cooperating teacher and the PETE academic consultant.
