Physical Education Teacher Education Program
Students completing the course of study in the Physical Education Teacher Education Program will earn a B.S. degree in Physical Education. The Physical Education Teacher Education Program conforms to NASPE/NCATE and North Carolina Department of Public Instruction for program content standards. It is expected that graduates will possess knowledge, skills, and dispositions which comply with NCATE and INTASC standards.
The program of study includes subdisciplinary foundational courses such as philosophy of sport, motor skill learning, motor skill development, kinesiology and physiology. Also, students take curriculum and instruction courses such as measurement and evaluation, and curriculum administration which support the process of pedagogy. In addition, students take pedagogical courses that emphasize planning, instructional delivery and assessment. Students participate in clinical experiences in the ASU Home School Physical Education Program and in the public schools. All students identify a second academic concentration and take 18-24 credit hours depending upon the concentration selected.
