Assistantships
A limited number of graduate assistantships are available for qualified students.
Graduate assistants must enroll in 9 - 12 hours of course work per semester, maintain a 3.0 GPA, and are responsible for 20 hours per week of service to the department. Most graduate assistantships carry a nine month stipend of $9,000 and may be renewable for the second year. A limited number of out-of-state tuition scholarships are available for students with outstanding academic credentials.
Several types of graduate assistantships are available:
• Research assistants work with graduate faculty in conducting and analyzing research data.
• Teaching assistants aid faculty in the instruction of laboratory classes within the Exercise Science undergraduate program.
• Strength and conditioning assistants work with the Head Strength and Conditioning coach with ASU athletics.
• Appalachian Regional Health Care System assistantships are supported by the local hospitals. Students work with the program director in the development and implementation of cardiopulmonary rehabilitation programs.
Additional funding opportunities are available through the Department of Athletics and University Recreation. Students may also desire to contact the Office of Student Financial Aid and the Graduate School for information regarding scholarships, fellowships, grants and loans available to graduate students.
